Fetch pets: How this rescue dog mom covered 2 surprise vet bills

These two rescue pups are treated like royalty in more ways than one.

It wasn’t until rescue dogs Gattis, a Pomapoo, and Daisy, a Boston Terrier, met their mom, Ginny, in 2020 that they experienced true love for the first time.

Daisy, who was surrendered to an animal shelter at 6 months old, took a little longer to accept the love she was shown by her forever family. But both of the pups thrived once they established their pack, which includes their human sister, Harper, and Boston Terrier brother, Bentley.

“Our dogs are the center of our family time,” Ginny explains. “They’re always included in our family time. We want them around us and always involve them in everything we do. We even take them on any vacations we can.”

The dogs are treated like human siblings to Harper — they enjoy playtime, running in circles around their sister and craft time, too. While Ginny’s family was on vacation, their pet sitter used peanut butter to entice the dogs to paint on canvases (the paint and canvas were safely secured inside a plastic bag, so nothing was harmful to the dogs!).

And when Christmas rolls around, Ginny goes above and beyond, showing how important her pets are to her with a Boston Terrier-specific Christmas tree that includes Pomapoo ornaments.

“Santa visits the dogs, and they have the same type of Christmas morning with special treats and toys,” Ginny shares.

Ginny's threshold for care extends beyond just activities and vacations. She signed Daisy and Gattis up for Fetch Pet Insurance when she first welcomed them home to ensure they'd always get top-tier treatment if they ever got sick or hurt. “It’s so nice knowing that I don’t have to make decisions based on finances and that I have the coverage I need for all these unexpected things,” she says.

And when the day came that Daisy began throwing up and having diarrhea, Ginny rushed her to the vet’s office to find out what was wrong without hesitating over what that visit would cost.

The vet discovered that the new food brand Daisy was eating (the change was due to a pet-food shortage) was causing gastrointestinal upset and severe dehydration. The pup spent the afternoon receiving fluids and medications at the hospital and was able to recover.

Then there was an instance where Gattis started continually coughing, so Ginny took him to the vet. X-rays showed that Gattis had a collapsed trachea and an enlarged heart — conditions that’ll have to be monitored throughout his life.

Luckily, Fetch makes it easy for Ginny to focus on her pets during the surprise and continual vet visits.

“If someone were to ask me if they should get pet insurance, my first thought would be ‘absolutely,’” Ginny says. “It’s so nice having that peace of mind when you go to the vet, especially with the unexpected where you don’t know how much it’s going to cost.”

So far, Ginny believes Fetch has covered between $700 to $1,000 of Daisy and Gattis’s unexpected vet bills. And it helps that she can quickly manage the paperwork on her phone.

“The Fetch claims process is super easy,” Ginny shares. “There's an app that's very easy to use. I get my information, discharge papers and medical write-ups from the vet, attach it to a claim, and it's extremely easy.”

The Dig, Fetch Pet Insurance's expert-backed editorial, answers all of the questions you forget to ask your vet or are too embarrassed to ask at the dog park. We help make sure you and your best friend have more good days, but we’re there on bad days, too.
